next friend An adult through whom an infant or patient sues, e.g., the infants father or person in loco parentis, patients receiver, or Official Solicitor. His name must appear on the writ and he must undertake to be responsible for costs. In the High Court, the next friend may not appear in person; a solicitor must be retained. |
